The Program

Overview

The PEAK Program is centred and designed around creating an environment for young adults (18yrs+) to come and grow a strong foundation in their spiritual walk with God and leadership skills for everyday life.

A week in the life of a Peakie looks different every week, but you can expect to work  3-4 days in your chosen area, studying on the remaining days and filling your time with adventures, spiritual development and making memories with friends.

You will pick a study package and be given allocated time each week to study and complete a qualification.

From January to December you will immerse yourself in a year that will change your life. With wilderness retreats, exciting ministry camps, diving into Gods word and a whole heap of adventures along the journey.

Wilderness Retreats

The PEAK program takes place in one of the most spectacular locations in the world; Tasmania. It is designed around taking our participants into the Tasmanian wilderness and experiencing all of Gods awe-inspiring creation.

There will be a number of multi-day wilderness out-trips and plenty of day trips. Participants will bond, share testimonies, develop skills to conquer the lowest valleys to the highest peaks, all while creating life long memories!

Work Experience

There are multiple areas that work together to form the day to day running of Camp Clayton. Throughout the year, you will spend time in a few of the areas of your choice. You will work alongside our experienced and qualified staff who will teach you the skills needed to produce high-quality outcomes at Camp Clayton.

The different areas that will be available to choose from are:

  • Outdoor Recreation
  • Hospitality
  • Maintenance & Projects
  • Business & Client Services
  • Ministry Camps

Ministry Camps

Camp Clayton’s mission, is to reach young people for Christ. This is outworked in a range of ministry camps during the year that are run in the school holidays.

You will play a key role in the running of the ministry camps supporting the volunteer team and Ministry Coordinators as you take your leadership skills to the next level.

The Ministry camps create an opportunity of servant leadership for a greater cause. Throughout the camps, you will be speaking into the lives of young people and have the chance to make a difference that will last longer than just this year. Ministry is where life long lessons, accomplishments and memories are made!

PEAK to me was so much more than a leadership program. It was vulnerability, it was challenge, it was friendship and it was learning. Looking back now from 2020, I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it. God taught me a lot in PEAK about His great detail, and the presence of His providence over my life. He taught me to look at the tasks I do at camp or other places, whether enjoyable or not, like peel 47 million carrots and be the self proclaimed head carrot peeler and look for the blessing in serving others, or to look around at the fine attributes of nature and to spend time searching for His fingerprints in what I see around me. The details that God taught me revealed about who I am in Him, and the things I can achieve when I put my trust and life in His hands.

To anyone who is feeling even the smallest bit led to do PEAK, please take the chance!
You might be surprised to see what God will do with you during the year.

During my year in PEAK I climbed mountains, abseiled down waterfalls and got to visit many different wild places over the whole state. I also spent countless hours studying, vacuuming and washing windows. The fun of the outrips was balanced with a commitment of service to the ministry run at Camp. Having been coming to Camp Clayton for many years as both a camper and volunteer I enjoyed the opportunity to be further involved in every area of camp, from the kitchen to the Youth Workers office to making beds and mowing lawns. This gave me an appreciation for the way the entire site is focused on the sharing of God’s word and how it is so much bigger than just the holiday camps that I was used to.

For me PEAK was my next step. Camp was where I wanted to be, I have been involved in camp for as long as I could remember and I just love it. I love that I can come and see God show up time and time again and that I am a part of something much greater than just myself. PEAK gave me the opportunity to serve at camp every single day. It was a year of continual growth, I acquired new skills in a practical sense, I also grew my faith and was able to take it out into the community, I stood on mountain tops and experienced God in His creation along with making lifelong memories with those I was sharing it with.

Sarah Hingston

In 2015 I participated in PEAK, my passion for PEAK and camp as a whole has only kept growing through this time. Now as a coordinator I get the privilege to facilitate that passion in other people.

I am also the Activities Coodinator at Camp Clayton. I love everything outdoors, facilitating the outtrips and watching people experience God as they push themselves in his creation  is one of my favourite parts of the program.

I am passionate about equipping people with life skills and teaching and giving them the opportunity to learn new and different things.

If you have any questions about the program we’d love to hear from you.

Shane PEARL

Hi! My name is Cheffy (Shane), and I have been the Head Chef at Camp Clayton for almost 2 amazing years! My passion for food and training has taken me all over Australia, blessing me with opportunities to work in all kinds of amazing places, and to cook for people from many walks of life.

My journey has brought me and my wife Tegan to camp. Tegan also works at Camp and it was very special to get married at Camp at the Bush Chapel, in a small ceremony by family and friends. Being asked to co-coordinate the PEAK program with Sarah has been something very different and exciting. I am passionate about seeing young people grow, be equipped, empowered and connected into the community.

I really look forward to being a part of camp for this season, serving and supporting alongside a team of dedicated, fun and kingdom-focused individuals.
